Hello,

A solid-state drive (SSD) (also known as a solid-state disk or electronic disk, though it contains no actual "disk" of any kind, nor motors to "drive" the disks) is a data storage device using integrated circuit assemblies as memory to store data persistently. SSD technology uses electronic interfaces compatible with traditional block input/output (I/O) hard disk drives.

SSDs have no moving mechanical components. This distinguishes them from traditional electromechanical magnetic disks such as hard disk drives (HDDs) or floppy disks, which contain spinning disks and movable read/write heads. Compared with electromechanical disks, SSDs are typically more resistant to physical shock, run more quietly, have lower access time, and less latency.

A solid-state drive (SSD) is a data storage device that uses solid-state memory to store persistent data. An SSD emulates a hard disk drive interface, thus easily replacing it in most applications. An SSD using SRAM or DRAM (instead of flash memory) is often called a RAM-drive, not to be confused with a RAM disk.

Abbreviated SSD, a solid state disk is a high-performance plug-and-play storage device that contains no moving parts. SSD components include either DRAM or EEPROM memory boards, a memory bus board, a CPU, and a battery card.

 Because they contain their own CPUs to manage data storage, they are a lot faster (18MBps for SCSI-II and 35 MBps for UltraWide SCSI interfaces) than conventional rotating hard disks ; therefore, they produce highest possible I/O rates.

SSDs are most effective for server applications and server systems, where I/O response time is crucial. Data stored on SSDs should include anything that creates bottlenecks, such as databases, swap files, library and index files, and authorization and login information.While solid state disk (SSD) is the most common acronym, SSD is also used for solid state drive or solid state disk drive, replacing disk with drive in the acronym.

Short for Solid-State Drive or Solid-State Disk, SSD is a drive that uses non-volatile memory as a means of storing and accessing data, much like computer RAM. Unlike other storage devices such as hard drives, an SSD has no moving parts, which gives it advantages such as accessing stored information faster, produces no noise, often more reliable, and consume much less power than the traditional hard drive (HDD) found in computers. The picture shows a Crucial SSD and is an example of what a SSD looks like.

The first SSD was implemented in IBM supercomputers in the 1970s and 1980s. They have since been drastically improved upon and offer storage capacities of 128GB and 256GB for home computers. Unfortunately, because of the much greater cost per GB of storing information these drives have not yet become suitable solutions for replacing a standard computer's hard drive. However, are a great solution for netbooks, nettops, and other applications that don't require several hundred GB of space. These drives are also popular for computer enthusiasts who use the smaller SSD to run only Windows and some of their more popular programs and then have all their data files such as pictures and music files on a second larger traditional hard disk drive (HDD).
