Hello,

Linux and Windows are the two most common and readily available operating systems, and there are many good reasons for using both. Unix systems are very similar to Linux (and Mac OSX systems are as well) but as I mentioned above, Macintosh systems are few and far-between.

Accessing the Server

The first difference that most people notice with Web hosting operating systems is how you access the server. Both Windows and Linux offer FTP access to your files, but only Linux will generally offer telnet or ssh access. (It's possible to set up telnet access on Windows, but very few hosting administrators offer it.) FTP is a way of transferring your files from your hard drive to your Web server. Telnet and SSH are a way to open a window directly on the Web server and manipulate files right there, usually using Unix command line commands.

Thanks
Melby

Hello,

Network Solutions offers two main types of operating system platforms on which you may host your Web site: Unix and Windows.

Both platforms have their own unique features, advantages and disadvantages. If you are going to add dynamic content on your site using PHP or CGI scripts and want to interface with a mySQL database, then you should choose UNIX for better compatibility with these applications. However, if you are going to use ASP/Access scripting combinations, ColdFusion, VB scripts or a MS SQL Server database, then choose Windows.

UNIX-based hosting is generally seen as being more stable, it also performs faster and can be more secure since most malicious software is written to cause damage to Windows. However, you will need Windows hosting if you are going to develop in .NET or Visual Basic.

Generally, we recommend our customers use UNIX, unless they need specific features/applications only available on the Windows platform

Note The operating system that you use on your desktop computer is independent of the operating system that you choose to host your Web site on.

Hallo,

The amount of hard disk space your files take up multiplied by the amount of people that access them each month equals your bandwidth usage.
The amount of disk space and bandwidth you will need to host your site(s) can depend on a variety of factors. If you plan to host a lot of big downloads or maybe a bunch of videos, audio clips or pictures, then all of these can quickly consume your space and bandwidth.
When youíre first starting in the world of web hosting, itís probably safe to go for a plan with average storage and transfer limits.

Thanks,

jamal

hello sir

Usually better, but the quality can depend on many factors like bandwidth, Internet connections over the routed call, and the Codec being used by the provider.

thanks

Hallo,

- The traffic can be measured using the size of the files that are transferred from one place to another (server-client).

- It can also be measured by the size of the file that is being requested by the client from the server.

- The number of visitors arriving on the website also involve in the measurement of the traffic using the web hosting platform.

- The advertisements of the sites take more bandwidth to allow more number of users to be on the website.

- More number of users provides higher traffic on the website thus it requires more bandwidth on the web hosting sites.

Thanks,
