The definition of mirroring depends on the context you use it in.

In RAID, at least, mirroring is RAID1.  It writes your data to both drives to ensure no files are lost if a drive dies.

For other types of mirroring, you can do things like run anycast DNS and rsync two servers on opposite sides of the world.  This type of mirroring will make your site load faster because your end-users will load the site from the closer server.

Port Mirroring, also known as SPAN (Switched Port Analyzer), is a method of monitoring network traffic. With port mirroring enabled, the switch sends a copy of all network packets seen on one port (or an entire VLAN) to another port, where the packet can be analyzed.
